New Job Announcement! (Plus Donate to the Freedom to Read Foundation with Me)

Back in December, I shared 3 Reasons Not to Romanticize Working in Publishing and that I had left my supposed dream job in publishing. I job searched for almost half a year while working part-time and picking up freelance editing gigs.

Now, I’m thrilled to announce that I have a new job at Penguin Random House! 🎉

If you would’ve told me that one day I’d work for PRH, I wouldn’t have believed you. I’m incredibly grateful, especially to the women in publishing who’ve mentored me, advocated for me, and believed in me—not only as a professional but as a person. Those women (and my love Kelvin) kept me going on the days when I’d all but lost my self-confidence and passion for publishing.

I’m also participating in the Banned on the Run 5K, a PRH employee fundraiser benefiting the Freedom to Read Foundation! Since I’m currently training for a marathon, I’ve committed to running way more than 5K—I’m running about 52K (32 miles) from April 6-12 instead. So wish me luck!

If you’re able to donate to my fundraiser, it would mean so much to me. The Freedom to Read Foundation defends the right to read books and defends libraries. Audiobooks are getting me through my marathon training, all thanks to my local libraries—the Massanutten Regional Library and the Augusta County Library—and the Libby app.

If you can’t donate (and even if you can), do something to support your local library today! Visit your library, use your library card, contact your reps and tell them to maintain and fully fund the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

On the note of visiting your library, come see me at the Massanutten Regional Library‘s Rocktown Author Festival on April 12 from 10am-3pm! I’ll be giving away some bookish goodies and selling copies of Sleeping Around and my upcoming young adult contemporary Hooking Up!

Hope to see you there, and keep reading to learn more about the Freedom to Read Foundation!

About the Freedom to Read Foundation

The Mission: The Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) is a non-profit legal and educational organization affiliated with the American Library Association. FTRF protects and defends the First Amendment to the Constitution and supports the right of libraries to collect – and individuals to access – information.

About the Organization: The First Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees all individuals the right to express their ideas without governmental interference, and to read and listen to the ideas of others. The Freedom to Read Foundation was established to promote and defend this right; to foster libraries as institutions wherein every individual’s First Amendment freedoms are fulfilled; and to support the right of libraries to include in their collections and make available any work which they may legally acquire.

Founded in 1969, the Freedom to Read Foundation was the American Library Association’s response to its members’ interest in having adequate means to support and defend librarians whose positions are jeopardized because of their resistance to abridgments of the First Amendment; and to set legal precedent for the freedom to read on behalf of all the people.

Libraries mean a great deal to me and a countless number of people. Thanks in advance if you donate to the Freedom to Read Foundation with me. ❤︎

Keep up with me each week as I figure out what’s next.

Success! You're on the list.
